The New York Chapter of the Market Technicians Association is chaired by the team of Steve Suttmeier, CFA, CMT, John Kolovos, CMT, and Dan Russo, CMT. One of the most active regions of the MTA, the New York Chapter holds meetings each month featuring some of the top names in the industry!

Both members and non-members are invited to attend all chapter meetings at no cost.

About the Chapter Chairs

Steve Suttmeier, CFA, CMTstephen.suttmeier@baml.com

Craig Johnson, CMT, CFAStephen W. Suttmeier, CFA, CMT, is a technical research analyst at BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research. Steve has 18 years of experience in financial services.

Prior to joining the firm in March 2007, Steve was a small-cap equity research analyst at Capital Growth Financial and Joseph Gunnar & Co. Before that, he was senior technical analyst at Informa Global Markets, where he covered the fixed income, foreign exchange and commodity markets.

Steve holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designations and is a member of the American Association of Professional Technical Analysts (AAPTA), CFA Institute (CFAI), the Market Technicians Association (MTA) and the New York Society of Securities Analysts (NYSSA). In the MTA, he is on CMT Board of Governors (BoG). The CMT BoG is responsible for the execution of the vision and strategic initiatives of the CMT Program. Steve is also a CMT subject matter expert and a grader for the CMT level III exam.

Steve earned his MBA from Fordham University's Graduate School of Business with a dual concentration in finance and accounting. He completed his undergraduate education at Fairfield University, where he received a bachelor degree with a double major in biology and English. He holds the Series 4, 7, 24, 63 and 87 licenses from the NASD.

John Kolovos, CMTjkolovos13@gmail.com

Tim Braun, CMTJohn Kolovos, CMT was recently co-head of Technical Analysis Research at MF Global. He is based in New York and was responsible for analyzing and forecasting a broad array of asset classes utilizing a unique blend of traditional technical analysis and quantitative methods. In addition to generating trade recommendations, John also worked closely with Portfolio Managers and Hedge Fund Traders to help generate alpha while using technical analysis to help minimize risk. Prior to joining MF Global, John spent 10 years working alongside Jeff deGraaf at ISI Group and Lehman Brothers designing and backtesting trading systems and market models.

Dan Russo, CMT, drusso@needhamco.com

Kevin Hockert, CMTDan Russo is an institutional sales professional at Needham and Company where he combines the research being done by the firm's fundamental analysts with his own technical analysis to generate actionable trading and investment ideas for sophisticated investors. Prior to joining Needham in 2011, Dan worked in an institutional sales role at Susquehanna International Group from 2007 – 2011. Before transitioning to the sales desk at Susquehanna he was a Specialist and member at the New York Stock Exchange responsible for maintaining markets in the domestic equities, US-listed foreign equities and closed-end funds.

Dan is a Chartered Market Technician (CMT) and a member of the Market Technicians Association. He holds an MBA in finance with an international designation from Fordham University.
