Library Guidelines & Regulations

In order to ensure a fair and dependable system for all Members and Affiliates, the following Guidelines and Regulations are applied with respect to MTA library usage:

  1. All books will be loaned out for a maximum of 6 weeks from the time the book is sent to the time it is received back in the New York Headquarters.
  2. A maximum of 3 books can be borrowed at any time. If you are not being allowed to check out more than one book, go to the “my transactions” section of your profile to see which books you may have outstanding.
  3. All books in the MTA library are displayed; however, books which are currently checked out are not hyperlinked.
  4. If any books on loan are overdue, all future borrowing privileges will be suspended until those books are returned.
  5. The “Due Back” date will be sent to you with your book order. Generally, it is a good idea to send the books back about 5-7 business days before the due date.
  6. A daily fine of .50 cents per book will be charged after the due-back date has passed. If the book is not returned within 30 days after the due-back date, the full replacement value of that book will be charged to the borrower.
  7. If a borrower loses a book, we request that you contact the New York headquarters immediately and make arrangements to replace that book.
  8. The borrower (if US based) is required to pay for the cost of the shipment in one direction, the MTA will bear the cost of the shipment in one direction. We use UPS ground shipment within the continental US for tracking purposes.
  9. The borrower (if outside the US) is required to bear the cost of the shipment in both directions. We use UPS air shipment for tracking purposes.
