Trend Following (12:00PM EST) - Michael CovelMichael CovelMichael Covel

Michael Covel is a highly respected author, film director, and entrepreneur. He extends his trading expertise to readers and clients through the use of film, the worldwide web and the written word.

In 1996, he founded the well-renowned TurtleTrader® website, which has attracted millions of visitors. This internationally acclaimed website offers innovative and comprehensive trading techniques, making a striking impact on the investing world. TurtleTrader.com has been online continuously since October 1996. In 2004, Covel published his first book, “Trend Following: How Great Traders Make Millions in Up or Down Markets” (FT Press, Apr. 04, Nov. 05, Feb. 07 & Feb. 09). Profiling great trend following traders, along with defining and teaching the underground trading strategy of trend following, it quickly became a bestseller. “Trend Following” has sold 100,000+ copies and is also available in German, Japanese, Chinese (Complex and Simplified), Korean, French, Arabic, Turkish and Russian.

In his second book, “The Complete TurtleTrader: The Legend, the Lessons, the Results” (Collins, Oct. 2007 & Feb. 09), Covel offers a definitive and inside look at a true trading legend. Informative and edgy, this narrative account of Richard Dennis and his student traders, known as The Turtles, has become a must-read for trading novices and experts alike. It is also available in German, Korean, and Chinese (Complex and Simplified).

Fueled by the success of his trademark website and two bestselling books, Covel enters filmmaking with his debut film, “Broke: The New American Dream” (September 09). In this insightful and witty documentary, Covel explores the ripple effects of behavioral finance across the 2007-2009 market and economic crash through the diverse worlds of fish markets, sheep farms, lottery stores and poker tables. Shot in 13 major cities and packed with notable figures, this is not lightweight rehash, but rather a poignant wake up call. Face-to-face interviews include Nobel Prize winners, Dr. Harry Markowitz and Dr. Vernon Smith, to name a few. Inspired by Michael Moore’s films, Covel breaks new ground with ‘Broke’ by speaking with a timeless, non-partisan & common sense message for all audiences.

Between film projects, books and social media management, Michael Covel is an in-demand global speaker. He has presented at conferences around the world. Tokyo, Vienna, Paris, Macau, Hong Kong, Miami and São Paulo have all given Covel a stage to present a unqiue and compelling message.

Additionally, The Wall Street Journal, Barrons, Globe and Mail, Bloomberg and The New York Post have quoted and interviewed Covel. Reviews of his work have appeared in The Huffington Post and Big Hollywood. His written work has also appeared in Technical Analysis Magazine, Trader Monthly, Stocks, Futures and Options Magazine, Futures Magazine, TradingMarkets.com, Yahoo Finance, Market Technicians Association Newsletter, and Futures Japan Magazine.

Covel earned a Bachelor’s of Arts from George Mason University and a Master’s of Business Administration from Florida State University. He has also completed graduate level courses in international relations in London.
