Q. When is the exam held?

CMT Exam Levels I, II, and III are given twice a year, in April/May and October. To view the dates for the next exam administration click here.

Q. Where is the CMT exam held?

The CMT exam is administered all over the world at Prometric testing centers (our test administration partner). You will find the exam center nearest to you at the Prometric website once you complete your enrollment in the CMT Program.

Q. Where is the Prometric test center nearest me?

Test centers are available around the world. Visit the Prometric website for a complete list of all available test center locations. At the Prometric site, to the left, under For Test Takers, select Academic, Professional, Government & Corporate. The testing program is Market Technicians Association, Inc.  On the next page, select Locate a Test Center, then follow the prompts.

Q. How do I enroll in the CMT Program?

Before you register for the CMT exam, you must first enroll in the CMT Program. Enrollment can be quickly processed right from the MTA website. Simply click here, login, and follow the instructions to enroll.

Q. How do I register for an exam?

As an active member enrolled in the CMT Program, you may register for a CMT exam. You will submit your registration and exam fee to the MTA and then schedule your exam with Prometric (our test administration partner). The entire process can be completed online. To register for the CMT exam, simply click here, login, and follow the instructions to enroll.

Q. What are the CMT Program and Exam fees?

The CMT Program requires a onetime enrollment fee of $250 USD. All subsequent fees shall be paid upon registration for each exam.

MTA Membership fee: $300.00 USD
CMT Program registration fee: $250.00 USD
Level I exam fee: $250.00 USD
Level II exam fee: $450.00 USD
Level III exam fee: $450.00 USD

All candidates must first be active members of the MTA which requires annual dues of $300 USD. CMT Program enrollment and exam fees are not refundable.

Q. What is the MTA Veterans Reimbursement Policy?

The CMT exams have been approved for reimbursement of test fees for veterans and other eligible persons in accordance with the Division of Veterans’ Affairs policy. For information on how to submit reimbursements after your examination, please visit www.gibill.com.

Q. Can I take multiple exams at once?

Candidates may take only one exam at a sitting. You will not be able to register for the next level until you have passed the prior level. However, successful candidates could sit for all three (3) exams within a calendar year.

Q. How long does a candidate have to successfully complete the entire CMT Program?

Once a candidate has passed a Level of the exam, there is no time limit for the candidate to pass the subsequent Levels. However, given the continual updates and improvements to the curriculum, candidates are required to reapply to the CMT Program after 5 years to continue their pursuit of the CMT designation.

Q. How many times are candidates allowed to take the exam?  For example, if a candidate does not pass, are they eliminated from taking the exam for a certain amount of time?

If a candidate does not pass an exam, there is no mandatory waiting period before retaking the test. Candidates may register to retake that exam during the following administration.

Q. Can I change the test center I was assigned to?

Yes, you may change your selected test center through Prometric by following the prompts to reschedule your exam. You may change test locations for Level I & II up to 48 hours before the exam date. For Level III, you must make any changes by the close of registration.

Q. What is the MTA “No Show” Policy?

If you do not cancel or reschedule, the examination fee is forfeited. There are no refunds or transfers.

Q. Can I reschedule my exam?

Yes, you may reschedule an exam to the following administration with no penalty up to the registration closing. After the close of registration, there will be a $50 USD rescheduling fee. Please contact the MTA office at 646-652-3300 to reschedule your exam.

Q. How do I withdraw from an exam? Will I lose the application fee?

For CMT Level I & II, you may cancel your exam up to 48 hours before your appointment at www.prometric.com. Your exam registration fee will be carried to the next administration if you wish by contacting the MTA. Exam fees are non-refundable. Please call Prometric at 1-888-226-8831 in the US & Canada, internationally call the Regional Contact Center closest to your desired testing location (see list of regional contact centers below).
