FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
WAYNE WHALEY AWARDED THE MARKET TECHNICIANS ASSOCIATION’S
2010 CHARLES H. DOW AWARD
MAY 5, 2010
Wayne Whaley, CTA of Witter & Lester Inc. has been selected by the Market Technicians Association (MTA) to receive the 2010 Charles H. Dow Award. Mr. Whaley’s paper titled Planes Trains and Automobiles presents a detailed study of various market thrust measures. It highlights their potential use in formulating trading strategies aimed at boosting return while reducing risk versus simple buy and hold portfolios.
The MTA has since 1994 presented the Charles H. Dow Award for excellence and creativity in technical analysis. The papers honored with the Award have represented the richness and depth of technical analysis. The Charles H. Dow Award, currently carries a prize of $5,000.00, and is the most significant competition for recognition in the field of technical analysis.
“Continuing the tradition of past Charles H. Dow Award winners, Mr. Whaley's studies have expanded the body of knowledge within the field of Technical Analysis,” said Martin J. Meaney, CMT, and the MTA’s Dow Award Committee Chair.
“I would like to give my sincere thanks to MTA for annually sponsoring this contest which results in an enrichment of the database of technical analysis available to so many students of the market,” said Wayne Whaley. “For the past 25 years, I have been one of those students who benefited, from not only the research emanating from this contest, but the volumes of studies from various sources provided by the previous recipients of the Charles Dow Award. The knowledge that many of the previous winners served on the evaluation panel that chose to recognize my work is tremendously rewarding to me, and I will be honored to now be able to call these gentlemen my colleagues. I look forward to having the opportunity to meet many of the former winners, along with other panel participants and MTA members at this year’s MTA Symposium.”
The Market Technicians Association’s objective is to educate the investment community and MTA members in technical analysis. More than 3,700 analysts and related market professionals in over 70 countries are members of the MTA. The MTA is responsible for the creation, oversight, administration and regulation of the CMT designation. The CMT is the only technical analysis designation recognized by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). It is also the only designation for technical analysts that qualifies as a “Series 86” exemption upon passing levels 1 and 2 of the CMT exam.
